Popular Celebrities That Chose Surrogacy

Feb 7, 2022 | 0 comments

Surrogacy has gained in popularity over the past years and many celebrities have chosen this method of adding children to their families.

While the public’s opinion remains divided on this issue, more and more advocates speak up each day to raise awareness regarding alternative ways to pregnancy and parenthood.

Here are the latest Hollywood stars that have welcomed their baby through a surrogate.

Priyanka and Nick Jonas

Announcing the big news on Instagram on January 21, 2022, the couple captioned their post with the following, “We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate. We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on your family. Thank you so much.”

Priyanka and Nick have both stated their intentions on starting a family throughout their relationship, and are now parents to a happy and healthy baby girl.

“[Kids] are a big part of our desire for the future,” Chopra told Vanity Fair in a profile published just eight days before their baby news. “By God’s grace, when it happens, it happens.”

Tan France and his husband, Rob

“Our Surrogate is doing so great, post-labor, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the greatest gift in our lives,” captioned the Queer Eye star on one of his Instagram posts.

Their son, Ismail, is a beautiful baby boy.

Following his announcement, Tan did face some backlash, especially in his comment section, with users asking why he chose surrogacy. Responding to the hate he was getting, the fashion icon said, “For all of those who are asking or angrily saying we should have adopted instead of surrogacy. A lot of you have your own kids. If you’re so upset about me having my own children, you can adopt. Please go ahead and adopt. It’s a wonderful thing to be able to do. You don’t know our story. You don’t know why we are going through the surrogacy process instead of adopting.”

Not letting these opinions weigh them down, they continue to thrive and grow their family.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

Probably the most known surrogacy, Kim and Kanye West welcomed her daughter Chicago, and son, Psalm through separate surrogacies. After dealing with complicated pregnancies in the past, she decided that this was the best option for her going forward.

This is what she had to say regarding critics who voiced their opinions about the subject:

“You know, it is really different,” Kardashian told ET in 2017. “Anyone that says or thinks it is just the easy way out is just completely wrong. I think it is so much harder to go through it this way because you are not really in control. And, you know, obviously, you pick someone that you completely trust and that you have a good bond and relationship with, but it is still … knowing that I was able to carry my first two babies and not, you know, my baby now, it’s hard for me. So, it’s definitely a harder experience than I anticipated just in the control area.”

Ryan Murphy and David Miller

While it has been a few years, Ryan Murphy, the man behind the shows American Horror Story and Glee, is another celebrity that used a surrogate – not once but twice!

Their son Ford, born in 2014, is the new family addition and brother to Logan, which the couple welcomed on Christmas Eve in 2012.

“His name is Ford. I brought him home today from the hospital and Logan gave him kind of a side-eye,” he exclusively told E! News at the American Horror Story: Freak Show premiere in Hollywood. “For 21 months, Logan has been the light of my life and now there are two.”

Our thoughts

Here at Guidance, we think that any way of welcoming a child into a loving family is good. We do not judge or tell you what we would do in your shoes. We are simply here to make the surrogacy process easier and less stressful.

At the end of the day, your happiness, and the health of your baby are what matters most. We aim to educate our community about issues relating to family and pregnancy, and more importantly, build a community of support.

In life, we believe that you need to do what makes you happy. You know what is best for you!
